Somalia Coastal Guards Piracy off the Somali coast has been a threat to international shipping since the
beginning of Somalia's civil war in the early 1990s, which has rendered almost a third of
the entire population poor. Little has been done by Somali’s coastal guards, while the
international community has not staged any crackdown to halt the crime. A24MEDIA |

Egyptian Vessels In The Hands Of Pirates Even as measures to curb piracy in high seas, off the Somali Coast are beefed up, a number of ships remain in the hands of pirates, who are demanding huge ransoms. Two Egyptians ships Momtaz 1 and Ahmed Samara and an Italian ship, Buccanario 72, which were hijacked two weeks ago, are being detained at a place near Las Kurai village in northern Somalia. A24 media has exclusively obtained footage of the two ships ending speculations about the whereabouts of the two mariners. Earlier, media reports indicated that the ships, which were apparently taken hostage on Sunday 12th April had been spotted near the Las Kurai village but Egyptian Foreign Ministry dispelled the reports saying, “had not confirmed the incident.” A24MEDIA |
